Eat, Drink and Be : Winchester
Our brunch series continues today with another Winchester visit. Eat, Drink and Be is towards what I would call 'the top end of town' and is a stone throw away from the Great Hall and Round Table.
I've been going back and forth on if I should do this blog post because, quite frankly, its not a good review in any way. I am always honest with my posts and that's why I felt it was important to do this blog because we really did have such a bad experience. So here we go!
I have walked past this place on number of occasions as we always park in Tower Street car park but hadn't had chance to stop it. One weekend we were out in a group of 6 looking for brunch on a Sunday morning and this seemed to be the only place that could accommodate all of us.
When we arrived, it was quiet so we quickly ordered our food couple by couple. One couple was before us and one couple was after us (this is important to the story). So both couples got their food and the table next to us (which arrived after we did) so we went to the counter to see where our food was and they were so rude to us in the first instance and just said it would be ready soon.
So we waited some more, everyone at our table finished their food....still no breakfast. So we went back up and asked again where our food was, to which they were rude again. And finally they brought us some food (in between serving around 5 more tables). From the time we arrived to the time we actually got our food pretty much every table in the restaurant had come in, ordered, eaten and had either left or were about to leave! The worst thing about the whole experience was that when the food finally did arrive, it wasn’t even very nice quality. The sausages were so cheap and there was SO much butter on the bread it just tasted like butter.
It was so frustrating because the cakes and the coffee were actually quite nice. But the service and the quality of the hot food just means that we will not be returning...even for coffee!
Every time I walk past Eat, Drink and Be it does seem busy. I actually drove past it today and it was busy, but I just don’t know how. Maybe we just had a bad experience? But it was bad enough that I don’t even want to risk giving them a second chance to make it right. For me, if they had just said ‘we are sorry, we will get it to you as soon as possible’ or maybe even ‘here have a coffee on us while you wait’ I would have just brushed it off. But it felt like we were inconveniencing them by asking where our food was and there was no apology, not even a whisper of a sorry.
And so for those reasons, I won’t be visiting again or making any recommendations to Eat, Drink and Be!
