Overnight stay, The Baraset Barn, Alveston

Mid July we headed ‘up North’ to visit friends and family for the weekend. As we have a 3-month-old baby, we decided to break up the journey by stopping off at The Baraset Barn, Alveston.

We picked The Baraset Barn because it was quick and easy to access from the M40 and meant we could be on the M6 nice and early ahead of the morning rush. There are just 16 rooms

This was our first hotel stay with a baby so we were feeling a little nervous. From the website, the rooms looked large enough to accommodate a travel cot or a pram. The room did not disappoint, we had ample space for setting up little man.

Sometimes hotels can make rooms look large on their website then you turn up to something tiny; this was not the case. If anything, it was actually the opposite as the room was much larger than I had anticipated. There is a small mini-fridge in the room that had bottled water and fresh milk for the coffee machine. The room also comes with two dressing gowns, an iron and ironing board.

The accommodation can only be accessed using your room key. There is a lovely little seating area as you enter and the huge windows flood the space with light, which is beautiful.

For me, hotel showers can make or break a stay. There is nothing worse than starting your day with a weak shower. I am happy to confirm that the shower in our room was immense. Spacious, powerful and relaxing. I’m so glad to woke up before the baby to make the most of being able to have a slightly longer shower than usual, a real luxury these days.

The rooms all look out over the same view, a beautiful, quiet field. The rooms upstairs have a Juliette balcony whereas the rooms on the ground floor have a little seated area. The rooms downstairs are slightly more expensive because of this small outside space.

It is worth mentioning at this point that there is no lift so if you require an accessible room you would need to opt for one of these. We had a pram with us, which meant carrying it up and down the stairs. Had I known there was no lift, I would have paid to have a room on the ground floor. Unfortunately for us, the hotel was fully booked so this was not an option for us.

The hotel also has some beautiful outside spaces which can be accessed by both hotel and restaurant guests.

Breakfast was served in the main restaurant a short walk across the courtyard. We were the first down to eat given we were wanting to get on the road early. Included in the price was a cooked breakfast as well as continental items. We ordered pancakes and scrambled eggs with salmon. Both were delicious and were the perfect way to start the day.

I would happily stay at The Baraset Barn again when travelling 'up North'. I thought it was a great price and was the perfect location for our needs as weary travellers.
