Summer lunch, Zizzi, Port Solent
One of the best things about living on the South coast is how close you are to the water. During summer, I love to be close to the sea. There is something about the fresh sea air that makes you feel clam and relaxed. So when you throw some food and sunshine into the mix, I'm in heaven.
We popped into Port Solent on our way back form Gunwharf Quays (which is an incredible designer outlet for anyone who hasn't been yet) to grab a quick bite to eat. Port Solent has a mixture of restaurants and shops around the edge of a beautiful marina. Click here to see a full list restaurants.
Zizzi's is on the ground floor and has masses of outside seating so that in summer, you can take full advantage of the views. When the weather is warmer, I tend to stay away from large dishes, so rather than choosing a main dish for my lunch, I decided to have two starters instead. First, I picked the 'summer special' deep fried rainbow gnocchi filled with oozy mozzarella and topped with riservva cheese and served with red pepper tapenade for dipping.
It was absolutely delicious and it really did ooze with cheese. Personally, I think this should be an all year round dish and not just a summer special. I then paired it with garlic bread with mozzarella & caramelised balsamic onions. I really enjoyed the red pepper tapenade with the garlic bread and it would be nice to be able to order this as a side in the future!
My other half ordered the Skinny Pepperoni Campagna which has pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, mozzarella & rosemary toppings. The pizza was a great size and more than enough for a lunch, not too heavy and just the right amount to feel full.
I am hoping to do a few more visits to Zizzi this summer so that I can check out a few more of their summer specials, so watch this space!
