Dinner, The Goat, Timsbury

When we had friends come to visit mid-September, we knew exactly where we wanted to go for dinner. The Goat in Timsbury (just outside Romsey) has been open since June/July 2019 after a full renovation. The result? A beautiful gourmet pub which offers a lovely garden area to watch the sun go down with a cold drink.

Because we decided to take a group a friends to The Goat, I was lucky enough to try a whole host of dishes all in one go! It's just as well my friends love me and have the patience to let me snap photos of their food and have a little taste of their dish.

The new decor is country chic which gives a relaxed vibe. There is a lovely fireplace with sofas where you can enjoy a drink in front of the fire with your loved ones.

Starters and small bites
We had a combination of dishes from the starters and small bites menu to kick off our meal.

Charcoal grilled halloumi with salsa Verdi
Listed as one of the 'small bites' it was a lovely way to start a meal

Mushrooms on toast sauteed with truffle and shallot butter
Feedback was that it was a little average and lacked seasoning. No sign of that truffle either. Given that truffle is such a strong flavour, that is quite disappointing.

Beetroot & crumbled goats cheese with cherry tomatoes and cherry vinegar
Delicious! The goats cheese was so creamy and the perfect amount

Hand rolled lamb Kofta with cucumber and minted yogurt
Again, listed as a 'small bite' but it was just a little bit too small even for this title. Would have liked to have seen 2 and then the option to have this as a starter too.

Smoked chicken & ham hock terrine with pear, apple and saffron chutney, pickled carrot
Executed perfectly. Will defiantly be having this next time we visit

Main dishes

Beef Ragout Pappardelle, slow braised ragout, Parmesan
The pasta was delicious and the beef was juicy and full of taste

Cod with crushed new potatoes, cavolo nero, salsa verde
The skin was beautifully crisp and the black kale was cooked to perfection

Sapori Pizza, chorizo, pesto, mascarpone , yellow cherry tomatoes
The ingredients were fresh, crispy base.

Lamb cutlets, mushrooms, tomtoes, chimichurri butter and fries
A favourite from the menu for the evening. The lamb was perfectly seasoned and cooked. A pure delight.

Desserts

All of the desserts were equally enjoyable.

British Cheeses

Tiramisu

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Chocolate Parfait

We had a fantastic evening at The Goat in Timsbury and would happily visit again very soon. I am already looking forward to summer coming back around so that we can enjoy sitting in the garden drinking wine and nibbling on small dishes and starters.
