Lemon and Jinja, Romsey

Lemon and Jinja (L&J) is based in the Abbey Park Industrial Estate in Romsey and is a Zero Waste refill station and cafe. You may be wondering about the name, well interestingly, the owner (Jess) and her family spent time in Uganda where her family set up a charity. Jinja is a town in Uganda and pays homage to the personal link between the two countries. You can read more on the L&J blog here.

The store opened its doors in March 2019 and offers some amazing ethical, zero waste alternatives. As well as offering food, L&J also have a great range of non food items such as bathroom accessories, make up and clothes. A full list of items can be found here on their website.

A friend and I started going to L&J a few months ago as they were a short walk from our office. One of the things I love about L&J is its chilled vibe. We often wander down for Chai Latte and snacks when we are having a particularly stressful day and need to get away from our desks.

Jinja coffee, the cafe based in the shop, aims to be zero waste too so if you are planning on doing a take away, don't forget your coffee mug!

However, if you are planning to have a coffee or tea in the cafe you will be served your beverage in one of the many recycled coffee cups. I like the fact that it's not all completely uniform, it feels much more like you are having a drink at home rather than in a cafe.

There is also usually a variety of sweet treats at the cafe or you can choose something from the refill station. Personally, I love the raspberry clusters with my coffee! You can either take your own container or you can have a rummage in the recycled containers that have been donated.

Simply weigh your container and make a note of it, then fill with your chosen treat and make a note of the new weight and voila!

Even through these odd times, L&J is still open and is offering a click and collect service to help keep you stocked up and safe. We love visiting the store and cannot wait to come back and visit soon.
