The Jetty, Salcombe Harbour Hotel & Spa

During our stay at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel we were lucky enough to enjoy two evening meals at their beautiful restaurant, The Jetty.

The Jetty is the only restaurant at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel and as you can imagine, has a focus on fish dishes. They do also have a grill menu so if you are travelling with someone who isn't overly keen on fish, there are a number of alternatives on offer such as steak, burgers, chicken etc.

As we were visiting in October, we weren't able to enjoy the beautiful estuary views during our dinner as it was pitch black, but I can imagine that during summer the restaurant has the most spectacular views over the water.

Starters

Simple Scallop Grilled, Garlic Butter

One of my all-time favourite starters, scallops cooked in garlic butter. Such a simple dish but unbelievably delicious, especially with fresh bread. You can choose how many you want, but for me, 3 was more than enough.

Twice Baked Cheese Souffle

It's not much to look at, but boy was this good. The souffle was cheese heaven and to be honest if I had had this one first night, I may have been tempted to have it again on the second night too.

Terrine of Duck Confit - slow-cooked duck stripped to the bone, pressed into a terrine with a cherry chutney

Not a personal choice, but my husband loves a good confit and he really enjoyed this with fresh bread. I don't know why, but the look of a confit always puts off ordering it. However, I did try a little bit and it was delicious. Shows you can't always judge a book by it's cover.

Mains

Chicken and Prawns served with greens

My husband actually had this on the first night and then I ended up having it on the second night as it was so tasty. Again, this dish isn't much to look at but the jus was full of flavour. I liked the combination of prawns with chicken and it was rested on a bed of vegetables.

Steak with a side of gratin dauphinoise

On our second evening and my husband decided that after having fish the night before and fish for lunch, he was ready for a meat dish. Given The Jetty are a seafood restaurant, the steak was cooked beautifully. The only downside to this dish was it didn't come with anything else, so we had to order some extra sides.

Dessert

I believe this was a lemon posset with meringue. We only had dessert one evening out of the two as we were so stuffed after starters and mains on the first evening. I think we overindulged in the breadbasket on the first night, so we made sure not to make the same mistake twice. This was perfect to share and it was nice to finish the evening with some light and refreshing.

As it was also my 30th birthday while we were visiting, the staff in the restaurant also surprised me with a cute little chocolate brownie and 'happy birthday' message.

A lovely touch and a nice way to finish the stay.

We had two really great meals at the restaurant, but I think I would have felt a little limited on the choice if I were to eat at The Jetty for another evening meal. We decided to eat at the restaurant on both nights as we had a good room rate where we had a set value to go towards an evening meal. The food was great on both nights, but I think if we had had dinner there for the third night, it would have been a bit 'samey'.

Both meals at The Jetty were extremely enjoyable and the portion sizes were actually bigger than they looked. Some of the dishes, like the catch of the day and the steak didn't come with anything as a side which was a bit disappointing as it doesn't take much to throw some extra veg on the plate. But that is just a personal bugbear.

Otherwise, we had a lovely time dining at The Jetty. The other main perk of eating in the hotel restaurant is you don't have far to stumble back to your room when you are fit to burst or after a few too many cocktails.
