Dinner, The Waterfront, Gibraltar

Image
If you read my most recent blog on lunch at Zizzi's in Port Solent, you will know that I love eating outside and near the water (click here if you want a quick link to that post). After heading up the Gibraltar Rock to see the famous monkeys, I took a short walk down to Queensway Quay to enjoy dinner in the warm evening sun. The Waterfront restaurant and bar looks out over the marina and is the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed dinner. The menu has a great range of dishes so should suit most palettes. For my main, I decided to have the King Prawn Linguine with a garlic cream sauce. When I think about this dish, I struggle to decide where to start as there were so many things to comment on. I will start with the prawns, huge, tasty and not in short supply. The pasta was beautifully cooked and tasty and the sauce, oh my the sauce. Perfection. Not too garlicy, not to creamy, just right. My mouth is salivating just thinking about this dish. Even though I was rather full

Lunch, Chewton Glen, Hampshire

Chewton Glen is located just outside of Highcliffe on the south coast. The hotel and grounds are stunning and when we visited at the end of July, we were lucky enough to experience them in the summer sun. Glorious.  For lunch, we were taken through to The Dining Room which has wonderful views over the grounds.  We were eating off the Estate Menu which is a set menu. This menu offers 2 courses for £25 or 3 courses for £32 per person. Drinks are not included. We were having lunch to celebrate my husbands birthday and when we arrived at The Dining Room, he was presented with a birthday card that had been signed by the team. A lovely touch.  The Pot Roast Quail with Roast Walnut & Chicory was bursting with flavour. The meat was extremely tender and fell off the bone.   Pot Roast Quail with Roast Walnut & Chicory   The other starter we ordered was the Chalk Steamed Trout Rillettes with Buttermilk, Dill and Toasted English Muffin. The trout was the most bea

Dinner, La Sala, Gibraltar

Sunborn Super Yacht Hotel is located in Ocean Village, Gibraltar. As you may have guessed from the name, it is a super yacht that has been converted into a hotel with has 2 restaurants, La Sala and Barbary. Initially, my plan was to book into Barbary restaurant for dinner, located on the top deck. However, this restaurant is closed on Mondays (which is when I was planning on going), so thought I would  head down to La Sala on the 3rd Deck. Not a problem, I'm sure that the experience would be just as enjoyable as this is a 5* Hotel. When I first arrived, I decided to enjoy a cocktail on the deck outside before heading in to eat. I ordered one of the signature Raspberry cocktails and enjoyed the warm weather and some relaxing music. Blissful. After my drink, I headed through to the dining room. At first, I was presented with an amuse-bouche of cold potato on a toasted piece of bread. It was delicious. Now I was feeling excited for my main to arrive. I ordered a 200g Ri

Son Spa Hotel, Norway

Approximately an hour outside of Oslo and perched beautifully on the side of the ocean is the idyllic Son Spa Hotel. We visited at the beginning of February when there was still a little bit of snow on the ground and it was breath-taking. The nights were still drawing in early and the sunset over the peaceful shore was stunning. As you would imagine, the décor is simple yet elegant making the hotel feel relaxed yet sophisticated. The staff at reception were possibly the happiest and most welcoming hotel staff I have ever met. For dinner, we headed down to the restaurant and enjoyed a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. I had a scallop starter (which I forgot to photograph). It was so fresh and full of flavour, you could tell it had been recently caught. For my main, I went for something a little bit more decadent, the lobster and steak. Again, you could tell the lobster was fresh and the steak was so soft and tender. It was a little bit messy, but definitely worth it. The porti
