Son Spa Hotel, Norway

Approximately an hour outside of Oslo and perched beautifully on the side of the ocean is the idyllic Son Spa Hotel. We visited at the beginning of February when there was still a little bit of snow on the ground and it was breath-taking. The nights were still drawing in early and the sunset over the peaceful shore was stunning.

As you would imagine, the décor is simple yet elegant making the hotel feel relaxed yet sophisticated. The staff at reception were possibly the happiest and most welcoming hotel staff I have ever met.

For dinner, we headed down to the restaurant and enjoyed a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. I had a scallop starter (which I forgot to photograph). It was so fresh and full of flavour, you could tell it had been recently caught.

For my main, I went for something a little bit more decadent, the lobster and steak. Again, you could tell the lobster was fresh and the steak was so soft and tender. It was a little bit messy, but definitely worth it. The portion size was pretty huge. But I of course managed to find space for it all.

On to dessert and we had a chocolate and mango brownie. It had a scattering of pumpkin seeds which almost made it feel healthy (the things I tell myself!). It was an interesting combo but I’m not sure I would order this one again.

The rooms were spacious with everything you might need. The bathroom had a walk in down and the hotel provided environmentally friendly shampoos and body washes. Being right on the waterfront, it’s nice to see they are trying to protect one of the things that makes their hotel so special.

Breakfast

I had a truly restful stay at the Son Spa Hotel and would love to visit again in the summer. I think the hotel would have a completely different vibe and that would be interesting to experience. It would also be nice to visit with a bit more time so that I could experience the spa too.
