Hoxton Bakehouse, Lymington
Somewhere in the haze between Christmas and New Year we headed into Lymington to escape the house and blow away the cobwebs. After a refreshing walk by the sea we wandered down the high street in need of coffee and food.
If you haven’t been to Lymington and you are going to the New Forest, I would really recommend it for a little day trip. There are some lovely walks (suitable for all ages) and lots of little pubs and local shops to bumble around.
As we made our way down the high street I spotted the Hoxton Bakehouse. I’ve been meaning to pop in and see what all the fuss was about so I was pretty excited to be have the chance to do so over the Christmas break. At the moment, they have three locations, Lymington, Winchester and Southampton (which I believe was their first store).
The display was filled with cakes and sweet treats but I was in need of something a little more filling after our walk and so we decided to have some savoury bits.
We ordered a round of hot drinks but unfortunately, we had to send some of them back as they were cold. The second round arrived and they were fine, but it was surprising that they needed to do these twice given it was very quiet when we went in. The other thing that was quite frustrating was the complete lack of a loo to use. I really needed a wee after our walk and we also wanted to wash our hands before eating.
I had a pastrami and cheese sandwich which was so tasty. It was such a full sandwich, which sounds like an odd thing to say, but there is nothing worse than ordering a sandwich and the filling is just at the front to make it look full and then completely empty at the back.
After eating this I was actually too full to get a cake, which was a real shame. I definitely want to go back to Hoxton Bakehouse to try their cakes, but I think it will be one of those places I pop in and grab something to take away. I guess without having a loo on site for customers, it means that people don't hover around and fill seats, but it would still be nice to have a loo on site.
