Lunch, Dim T, Winchester

At the beginning of February, we headed into Winchester as we usually do when we have a free weekend at home. Winchester is one of my favourite cities and when the sun is shining it's the perfect place to roam around and grab a spot of lunch. There are a number of cuisines on offer and this particular weekend we were really craving dim sum.

Dim T is an authentic Asian restaurant offering a variety of dishes including dim sum, noodles, ramen and soups. It is also conveniently situated on Jewry Street which in a short stroll from Tower Street Car park (which is where we always park when going into Winchester). If you are familiar with the city, you will know that there are a number of little cut through's that mean you bimble down to Dim T pretty quickly from the car park.

I love dim sum because I'm one of those people that really suffers with food envy. When I see other peoples meals, I always want a little bit of what they have and I find that dim sum means I can have a little bit of what everyone else is having and I don't have to committing to just one dish. I also never feel judged for ordering a second (or third) round of dishes, because everyone does.

For me, first thing on the menu always has to be prawn crackers. I could eat my own body weight in these bad boys, especially if they are served with chilli sauce. The perfect snack for munching on while you try and decide what to order.

As it was lunch time, we decided to order just three baskets as well as some rice. One thing that always really bugs me about dim sum is that they generally serve the baskets in quantities of threes. Why?

I'm sure there is some actual logic to it, but I just want a nice even number! Luckily my husband and I have been together long enough that if either of us really wants to third piece then we just out and say it, but what if you are on a first date? Or meeting your other half's family for the first time and want to make a good impression? What then?

Everyone always wants to appear nice and polite and not have the 'last one', right? Just serve them in even numbers and save us all that little dance around. We are Brits, we can't cope with the potential of upsetting the person we are dining with. Weird rant over, let's move on to what you are actually here, to drool over photos of food.

I'm 99% sure this one was the duck & ginger

We had such a nice meal at Dim T and so wish we could be there again right now. The restaurant has a huge glass front and we were able to sit in the window in the sunshine and it felt like a summers day. As we were having lunch, 3 baskets of dim sum with a side of rice was the perfect amount of food to feel sufficiency full but not too bloated to wonder around Winchester for the rest of the afternoon.  Everything was so tasty and I'm drooling as I write this blog thinking about our last visit.

For a light lunch that is packed with flavour, I think Dim T is a great option. The beauty of ordering in baskets means that you can have as much or as little as you like. It also means that you can have a little bit of everything you fancy, which is perfect if you are indecisive when it comes to ordering. As the food comes out at different times, there is a really chilled vibe and you don't feel rushed. You can just sit back and enjoy your food and socialise with your nearest and dearest.
