Wine at The Black Bottle, Winchester

Do you remember that feeling when you were a kid and a vending machine full of sweets was oddly exhilarating? You'd walk up to the glass, peer in at all of those tasty treats and then mull over the options before excitingly picking your snack. Well that is exactly what it's like when you go to The Black Bottle in Winchester.

On your first visit, you will need to get a card (which is free) to load with credit to spend on the wine vending machines. You then keep this card to reuse on each visit, so don't worry if you don't spend everything in one go!

There are 32 different wines available giving you the option of a taster (25m) , a small (125ml) or a large (175ml) glass of your chosen wine. Each wine has a tag telling you where it's it from, what grape it is and a little description of the flavours, example below. This is really nice, because even if you aren't a wine buff, you can make a selection based on what you know you like and have the opportunity to try something new.

The wines are changed regularly (I remember speaking to the lady on the front desk about this and I'm sure she said they change every 3 or 4 bottles? Don't quote me on that number though as I had had a lot of wine by this point!). Either way, it means that the chances of you having the same wine when you go back in is pretty slim, so each trip is just as exciting as the first.

The Black Bottle has a wine cellar of around 140 wines which I believe you can also purchase. If you for some reason aren't drinking or maybe fancy something non alcoholic to go with your wine, you can also buy soft drinks and snacks from the front desk.

The decor is also something I really love about The Black Bottle. There are a range of benches and tables or more relaxed arm chairs and sofas which mean you can sit back and enjoy your wine. There are also a number of board games that you can take advantage.

We always really enjoy visiting The Black Bottle and we are sure you will love it too. We can't wait for lockdown to over to so we can head back to Winchester and taste some new wines!
