Jetting Off? Grab breakfast at Oriel Grande Brasserie, T3 & T4 Heathrow

Image
Early morning flights can be a real drag. When you heading off on holiday you somehow seem to have more energy that you've had all year even after the worst sleep of your life, but that doesn't always last. Once you've managed to get yourself through security and spent a good half an hour looking at make up and perfume, you can sometimes start to feel a little depleted and in need of a good breakfast. If you are travelling through T3 Heathrow you can find Oriel Grande Brasserie after security. Nestled in the corner, the restaurant has the most beautiful design and make you feel as though you have stepped out of the airport and into a cafe in France. The breakfast menu is served until 12 noon. (If you are travelling from T4 Heathrow, the Oriel Grande Brassiere is before you head through security. I personally have never visited the restaurant at T4 and have only ever eaten at T3). For me, the most important thing to order first for breakfast has to be a coffee. You

Septemeber Stay, Chateau La Thuiliere

Image
Full disclosure, we visited Chateau La Thuiliere back in 2017, but I am 100% confident that the same things we adored about our stay will still be fully relevant to this day. It was around this time in 2017 that we visited, so I thought why not do a little throw back? You know that feeling when you look back on something with such fond memories that you just smile? That is how I remember our stay at Chateau La Thuiliere. Like a beautiful dream I never wish to forget.  As you turn into the grounds, your breath is taken away. The road to the car park leads you through the grounds where you are greeted by Jordi, the owner. From our conversations with him, the Chateau has been a real labour of love to bring the building to the magnificent hideaway it is now. Once you are all checked in, a quick tour around the Chateau and you are set to take a deep breath and relax. The Chateau has so many little spaces here and there that you can enjoy as a couple, but when it comes to mea

Coffee and Cake, Cafe Winchester

Image
As you most likely know by now, I love supporting local businesses where I can, so when I popped for coffee and cake last week, I headed to Cafe Winchester. Encase you haven't been before, here is what it looks like from the outside. The cafe itself is actually much bigger than it looks from the outside and has masses of seats. And for all those dog lovers, they are dog friendly! Front of Cafe Winchester, St Thomas Street The Cafe is just off the high street (down the same road Joules is on) and is opposite a few other local businesses. When my husband worked in Winchester, he used to go to the Cafe on an almost weekly basis to get a bacon sandwich, which he always raves about. Apparently, the bacon to bread ratio is perfect...which means there is a lot of meat. (Top - Chocolate cake, bottom - Red Velvet cake) This isn't the first time we have been to Cafe Winchester and I am sure it won't be the last. The cake selection is amazing! There must have been at le

Lunch, Ping Pong, Soho

Image
Being a real foodie, I find that picking just one dish off a menu can be a real emotional roller coaster. Do I want this or that? I always want it all. So dim sum is a great option for me, bite-sized portions of each dish give you the chance to try a who host of things on the menu without over indulging. Sometimes, a mouthful or two is all you need to experience the dish. We visited Ping Pong Soho on a weekday for a light lunch. The restaurant itself is like a tardis; entering from the street it appears quite small, but as you walk through it opens up and reveals a large space spanning across two levels. To start, we ordered the crispy duck spring roll served with hoi sin sauce and roast pork puff. The duck rolls were perfection however the roast pork puff wasn't something I would order again. They felt quite stodgy, but not in a comforting way, and lacked in any real oomph.  Top - Roast pork puff honest roast pork in puff pastry, glazed with honey and

Dinner, Pho, Nationwide

I really like a good backstory and the story of Pho is a great one. The owners decided to set up Pho while travelling Vietnam after they feel in love with the food. The chain has been running sine 2005 and at present, 29 locations. If you are based in or around Southampton, your nearest Pho in Portsmouth at Gunwharf Quays (pronounced 'fuh' encase you were wondering). I first stumbled across Pho at their Kingston restaurant. Cast you mind back to the beginning of last year when we had that terrible snow around March time. I know it's hard to think of snowy weather in the middle of summer, but here we are. I was staying away on a work trip and I fancied something tasty and easy for my dinner. It has been a long day and I was tired and just wanted to eat and get to bed. That's when I saw Pho's neon light shining bring through the snow. I know, sounds romantic right? But from that first trip, I was hooked...so I guess you could say it was love at first sight? The fi
