Pret-A-Portea, The Berkeley Hotel (2016)

During this time of quarantine, I started looking through my old photos and realised how many Afternoon Tea's or beautiful meals we had enjoyed before we started our blog. So I thought why not take a trip down memory lane and share these experiences with our wonderful readers?

As the title suggests, I had this Afternoon Tea back in 2016 and although my memory is good, remembering flavours from that long ago would be impressive and unfortunately, that is not a skill I possess. So I will share what I can and if nothing else, I hope you are able to enjoy the pictures of the cakes as they are beautiful works of art!

The Berkeley Hotel is located in Knightsbridge on the edge of Hyde Park. Their afternoon tea is located in the Collins Room which is a beautiful, bright, dreamy space. There is a large 'conservatory'  (and I use that word very loosely as this is like no conservatory you would imagine) which allows light to stream into the space.

The Pret-a-Portea is £60.00 per head and The Berkeley also offer a range of beverages depending on your request. I think given the location and the level of detail required for the sweets, this is a very good price.

The Afternoon Tea starts with a variety of canapes and tea sandwiches, pictured below. The sandwiches were as you'd expect with fillings that included salmon, egg, cheese, and cucumber.

The addition of canapes (below) is one of the reasons I think the price of £60.00 per head is very much justified. I can recall looking at the photo that the 'muffin' at the front had a whipped goats cheese top and the dishes on either side were swordfish. I believe the dish in the middle was a tomato based gazpacho, again with a whipped goats cheese.

The real ‘stars’ of the show were of course, the cakes. The menu is inspired by the latest runway trends and at the time of our visit, these were the styles being featured on the catwalk.

When the sweets arrived, they exceed all of my expectations. Even now, I remember being so delighted with the appearance of everything. The colours, the designs, just wow! I honestly don't think the pictures do them justice. The level of detail in each piece amazing.

Looking back at these photos is making me think that once life 'gets back to normal' I really need to get myself to London to try the latest Pret-A-Portea. This Afternoon Tea is so appealing to all of the senses and that makes it such a treat.

I'd love to know if you've been to The Berkeley for Afternoon Tea, tag us in your photos so we can see the beautiful dishes you were able to experience.
